Slider FAQ
Last updated with info provided by Jason Tierney from Feb 27, 2025
The descriptions below serve as a guide to outline the specifics of the materials offered, sound, and feel. Every listing will contain a variety of these particular material/s and setup/s. The title of the item will serve as the outline of what material/s and setup/s are being utilized.
Materials
PLA
Standard FDM Filament (Utilized for both tops and bottoms, can be printed up to 4 colors)
Composite Filament
Contains Metal and PLA (The heaviest 3D offering). These include Stainless Steel, Copper, Iron, Brass, and Bronze. Each material can impact the play of the slider, Iron specifically is magnetic and can negate much of the crunchiness in a “crunchy” slider.
*Composite materials have a higher likely hood of having marks/scratches, rougher feel, and other noticeable aesthetic imperfections. I always strive for the highest quality of my product offerings, but with composite I WILL NOT be held responsible for anything other than functional sliding problems. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS!
PETG (All Forms)
This material can withstand higher temperatures and the elements better than PLA.
PPA-CF
A premium fiber-reinforced nylon, delivers industrial-grade printing quality with Metal-Like Strength. Renowned for its exceptional mechanical properties and reliable performance in humid or high-temperature environments, PPA-CF is ideal for engineering applications.
Nylon (All Forms)
The smoothest offering, only used on bottom plates. Not Snappy, moves much more freely, can handle very high temperatures.
*This material can have warping due to the printing process and the high temperatures required for printing. I always strive for the highest quality of my product offerings, but with Nylon I WILL NOT be held responsible for anything other than functional sliding problems. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS!
Resin
Typically a form of ABS (Mostly used on tops or middles, smoother to the touch).
*This material is much more susceptible to cracking, breaking, and shattering if not handled with care. If dropped on a hard surface such as concrete, asphalt, hardwood and tile floors, etc., damage may occur. I always strive for the highest quality of my product offerings, but with Resin I WILL NOT be held responsible for anything other than functional sliding problems. Resin can have shiny spots, marks, tiny imperfections, small scratches, or white marks on them. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS!
GITD (Glow In The Dark)
Can be offered in Resin, PLA, PETG, and Nylon. Glow intensity and glow times can vary, sometimes UV light or Blacklight is the only catalyst to make the glow work.
ASA
Able to withstand very high temperatures, excellent UV resistance, and great weather durability. This material is ideal for applications that would require high stress in a wide range of environments.
Delrin
Provides a very soft and smooth feel, making this piece all around incredibly gentle to the touch. Delrin plates will show wear very quickly, and can feel a little sticky at times, mainly if you attempt to push from the center of the piece as this applies more downward pressure instead of a push from the outer thumb recesses. I really enjoy this piece, but we will continue to tinker with plate designs and they could vary in the future. I would never sell a piece that I don’t think is up to standards, but I do want to make it clear that this new material currently has some potential draw backs for some and I do NOT ADVISE purchasing one unless you agree to what is stated.
Sound and Feel
Crunchy
Magnets have space to slightly move around providing a “crunchy” sound, and slight “crunchy” feel while sliding the plates.
Cicada Crunch & Hybrid Cicada Crunch
Magnets have ALOT more space and make a sound that reminded me of a Cicada, it’s just a fun way to say VERY CRUNCHY. You can kind of feel the magnets pop beneath your finger while sliding. This setup typically provides less strength in feel than both Crunchy and Silent Less/No Crunch Offerings. Hybrid Cicada crunch differs in that it utilizes only 1 side of the slider with the cicada setup.
Less/No Crunch
Magnets are glued into place to prevent movement which prevents the crunchy sound and feel.
Mixed Crunch/No Crunch
Occasionally certain materials can have less wiggle room for the magnets, or the glue used to make the pieces can get on the magnets. This can cause variation in the pieces where some are crunchy, and some are not. I always want to be as transparent as possible for when this happens and therefore created this “Mixed” category in order to best represent the product you will receive could vary in crunchiness. (I will typically offer these products with a discount already applied)
*All setups can vary in crunchiness. This means that sometimes what should be crunchy could have very little to no crunch, and Less/No Crunch could have a slight crunch or a crunch develop over time.
ErgoBoy Glow Rod Disclaimer
Please carefully look at photos to know if the piece comes with or without a glow rod installed. Some ErgoBoys have space for a glow rod to be installed and some do not. For pieces that have an open slot to install your own, the glow rod size is 1.5mm x 6mm and will require resin or some form of glue to hold it in place. I DO NOT sell just the glow rods themselves, you will need to source your own.
Full Resin or Resin Plates and Slide Tape
Full Resin or Resin Plate pieces REQUIRE SLIDE TAPE on one or both plates in order to function. Sometimes I will include slide tape with certain pieces that you will need to adhere yourself. If you need more slide tape you will be responsible for purchasing it yourself. I use APT UHMW Polyethylene tape 2” 5 Mil, it can be found on Amazon. Using your own tape will require you to cut and adhere the tape yourself.
Disclaimers
While my sliders are tested and designed to prevent plate stick, if plate stick does develop, place a piece of wax paper between plates and rub for about 20-30 seconds, slide tape will always work to resolve sticking plates but will provide a smooth sliding feel.
Item Titles that include (+) means that the piece utilizes stronger magnets. While this offers a stronger feel it also means that plate stick could more easily occur and wear/tear will be greater with usage. By purchasing a piece with (+) you understand and agree these pieces may develop stick or not last as long as a regular model. While I strive to produce the best possible products that will hold up aesthetically and functionally overtime with usage, the increased magnetic strength does pose these potential issues.
Pictures show more than one slider for display purposes only. You will receive only 1 slider with your order.
Every piece utilizes magnets and should only be handled by adults.
!!!DUE TO THE NATURE OF 3D PRINTING THERE CAN BE IMPERFECTIONS!!!
